About The Wasaga Community Theatre

In the winter of 1991, Karen MacLean was approached by her friend Greig Fowler about the possibility of starting an amateur theatre group in Wasaga Beach. Both Karen and Greig were members of the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts. They decided to give it a try and advertised a meeting of interested people for this purpose. The meeting was very successful and ultimately the first Board of Directors of “Wasaga Community Theatre” was elected. It consisted of Ruth Burnett, Cheryl Chase, Greig Fowler, Elizabeth Gibson, Velma Kyte, Jim Lupton, Karen MacLean, Rennie McWilliam, Burt Redpath, Brenda Sigouin and Florence Walker.

After significant fundraising and help from the Wasaga Beach Lions Club and the Town of Wasaga Beach, we were underway with our first production “Exit The Body”. Since that time the group has gone on to produce two to three plays per year, including several children’s productions.

Our purpose is to bring this wonderful art form of live theatre to our community in order to enhance the lives of our audience as well as give our citizens an outlet for their incredible talent.   

We perform each Spring and Fall. Past performances have included: Oliver,  Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma, Steel Magnolias , Grapes of Wrath, The King and I,  Guys and Dolls,  Moon Over Buffalo,The Mouse Trap, Stepping Out, The Best Worst Christmas Pageant Ever, Grease, The Little Shop of Horrors, and Office Hours to name just a few.

Encouraging and participating in community theatre is not just entertaining but a terrific educational experience as well. Volunteers from Wasaga Beach and surrounding communities are offered an opportunity to learn about acting, directing, producing, stage management (including design, lighting, etc.), makeup, costumes and all the wonderful things that go into a production involving creativity and teamwork. Participation in community theatre can be a valuable and unforgettable experience. We always welcome new members of all ages.
